Powerboat was founded by theater maker and actress Fokka Deelen and designer Bas Kortmann. Fokka graduated in 1997 from the Academy of Drama in Eindhoven. As a theater maker, she wanted to make people think and get them moving. But how can that ever happen if you put your audience in a dark room and you yourself tell your story from a high stage, into the dark. How can you change people's minds? Fokka did not believe in this and sought dialogue, interaction, participation. In 1998 she met Bas, at which time he graduated from the Design Academy. He was also busy with interaction, not in theater but through design. How can spaces and objects be used to get to know each other better? They decided to work together and founded the Powerboat theater group in 2001. Powerboat has since grown from a theater group, initiator and artistic producer to an expert and consultant in the field of interactive processes and community building. All activities and expertise come from the same source: stimulating and inspiring interaction.

Powerboat is happy to offer a challenge. A surprise. We take you to a different place so that your perspective becomes different, so that you can look at it differently, look at it differently, literally. We look for interaction, small or large, literally or figuratively, assuming that you take experiences, opinions and emotions with you. The meeting is about an interaction, a laboratory where we work together. Of course we have determined things and we will be the catalyst, but free spaces will be built in. Free spaces come in various forms; literal space, no fixed seating or standing space. Search for your position. How close or far do you want to be? But it can also be room to add something, a drawing, a word or sentence, a change in the landscape. What do you want to share? And of course space to talk to, to contribute. You tell me? We make the encounter more equal by entering into a part of the unknown ourselves.

We a jump, you a jump. But this being together also comes to an end. In the ideal world we would like to put a point together, but often we are not together long enough. So the end is open, we don't make a point. What does happen is that you take something with you. Something to chew on. Just like with a birthday, you get a surprise home. A bag with a balloon, a candy, a toy, something you made at the party, and the encouragement to look for the unknown, in whatever way.

For each project, Powerboat uses a step-by-step plan based on Powerboat's four core values: provoking, reading, leading and supporting. By constructively deploying these core values, a possibility of dialogue is created that sets an action in motion.
